Lymphatic drainage massage uses very light, rhythmic, pumping strokes to encourage the movement of lymph fluid through the body. It is often used to reduce swelling and support recovery.
Lymph vessels sit just under the skin, so the pressure is intentionally light. The therapist follows the direction of lymph flow with slow, repetitive strokes, usually toward the lymph nodes.
Surprisingly gentle β much lighter than a typical massage. Some people feel a sense of lightness afterwards, and it can make you need the toilet more as fluids move.
If you have swelling with a known medical cause, or any condition affecting your heart or kidneys, speak to your doctor first β lymphatic drainage is not a substitute for medical care.
