Shiatsu is a Japanese form of bodywork that uses rhythmic pressure from the fingers, thumbs, palms and sometimes elbows along the body’s meridians. It is traditionally done on a mat, fully clothed.
The therapist applies sustained pressure to points along energy pathways, combined with gentle stretches and rotations. The aim is to encourage the smooth flow of energy and release tension.
Firm, rhythmic pressure that can feel both energising and relaxing. You stay dressed in loose clothing, and no oil is used.
Sessions usually run 45 to 60 minutes and cover the whole body. Tell the therapist about any injuries or sensitive areas before you begin.
